Safe Use of University Vehicles and Private Vehicles on Official University Business

Policy

Murdoch University provides vehicles for use by employees and student for work related and study related activities. These vehicles are regarded as a workplace and the University therefore acknowledges its responsibility to provide and maintain the vehicles in a safe condition.

The University also recognises that private vehicles will be used for University purposes and these vehicles will be subject to the provisions of this procedure.

It is also acknowledged that staff and students from overseas may use vehicles for University purposes. Staff and students shall not be permitted to drive on University business without a current Australian Driver’s licence for the type and class of vehicle being use.

All staff and students are required to regularly and frequently drive on official University business or use 4WD ‘off road’ should undertake advanced driver training or accredited 4WD training respectively. Those staff and students required to use 4WD in isolated locations must successfully complete and accredited 4WD-training course and comply with the provisions of the ‘Working in Isolation’ policy
