Wearing of Footwear
Policy
Murdoch
University has a ‘duty of care’ to provide a safe workplace and environment,
and as such is committed to providing a safe, healthy and productive workplace
for all staff, students, contractors and visitors.
The
University recognizes its responsibilities and obligations under the
Occupational Safety and Health Act 1984 (WA) and the Occupational Safety and
Health Regulations 1996 (WA).
In
fulfilment of its duty of care, the University requires that all staff,
students, contractors and visitors on campus or otherwise engaged on University
business must wear appropriate and suitable footwear. The type of footwear required will depend on the
circumstances, including the area of the University being accessed and the
presence of known hazards, e.g. hazardous chemical in laboratories.
The
University’s staff, in particular managers and supervisors, will promote and
ensure compliance with the Wearing of Footwear Policy.
All
staff, students, contractors and visitors will abide by the provisions of the
Policy.
This
Policy is supported by the Policy and Procedures on the use of Personal
Protective Equipment (PPE) and the Australian Standards, AS 2210.
OBJECTIVE:
- To
safeguard the safety and health of staff, students, contractors and
visitors.
- To meet the Universities obligations under the
Occupational Safety and Health Act 1984 (WA) and the Occupational Safety and
Health Regulations 1996 (WA).
