First Aid in the Workplace

Policy

Murdoch University will provide first air serviced and facilities in accordance with the provisions of the Occupational Safety and Health Act WA 1984. The primary serviced provisions will be maintained through the University Health Service supported by a network of appointed First Aid Attendants and Volunteer First Aiders.

Divisions and Officers are required to assess their first aid needs and the number of First Aid Attendants required with respect to:

  • The type of hazards to which persons at the workplace are exposed and the risk of those hazards; and
  • The number of person at the workplace.

The divisions shall ensure that appointed First Aid Attendants are provided with adequate training, time and resources to undertake their role in accordance with this Policy and the University enterprise bargaining agreements.

First Aid Attendants for designated areas shall be maintained in the front pages of the Murdoch University telephone directory and on the University Website.

Any and all information recorded about the health of a person or treatment given to a person shall be treated as strictly confidential.

This policy does not in any way alter the University’s policy on responding to medical emergencies. In the event of a medical emergency contact the University emergency number.
