Employee Assistance Program

Policy

Murdoch University values the importance of its employees in the success of its business. In common with every other employer, Murdoch University will have some staff who experience personal or work related problems which may be affecting their quality of life, and in some cases this may have an adverse affect on their work performance. Left unresolved, these problems may not only be detrimental to the individual’s health, wellbeing and performance, but also have the potential to jeopardise the safety of clients, fellow employees and members of the public.

To ensure that support is available for employees experiencing difficulties an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is available whereby staff and their immediate family members can access an external counselling service. The University has engaged an EAP provider to provide this service. The overall objective is to achieve early identification, referral and resolution of personal and work-related problems before they become serious.

Objective

The aims of the EAP are:-

  • To provide early assessment and assistance with personal problems through access to an external counselling service.
  • To have managers / supervisors trained to recognise and deal with staff’s personal issues that may be affecting the staff member’s work performance and provide guidance on how to use referral to the EAP provider as a management tool.
